Rosa Reina, 38
Senior project manager at Vanguard Construction
Rosa Reina has spent more than a decade building a career at the intersection of architecture, construction management and high-end hospitality.
Originally from Mexico, Reina earned an architecture degree from Universidad del Valle de México before joining New York-based Vanguard Construction, a general construction and construction management firm founded in 1986. She began as an assistant project manager and advanced to senior project manager, developing a reputation for coordinating owners, designers, consultants and subcontractors.
Her most complex assignment so far was helping lead construction for Gracious Hospitality Management’s three-level dining spot at 550 Madison Avenue, the 37-story high-rise designed by Philip Johnson and John Burgee, formerly known as the AT&T Building and then Sony Tower.
The project brought together Cote 550, Bar Chimera and the forthcoming Sushi Yoshitake under one roof, turning portions of the building’s atrium, mezzanine and below-grade space into a closely watched hospitality opening. The more than 20,000-square-foot buildout included two commercial kitchens, more than 12,000 square feet of public dining space, approximately 8,300 square feet of back-of-house operations, a new elevator and a reflecting pool.
The job also required mechanical, electrical, plumbing and sprinkler systems, specialized lighting controls, custom millwork, stone and metal bars — all inside one of the country’s most recognizable Postmodern buildings.
Reina was at the center of a large team that included the tower’s ownership, Gracious Hospitality Management and numerous trades. She described it as both the most difficult and most rewarding project of her career so far.
“This Young Professionals acknowledgement reflects the collaboration, dedication and support of the incredible teams, partners and mentors I’ve had the privilege to work with throughout my career,” Reina said in a statement. “I’m grateful for the opportunity and inspired to continue contributing to our industry with passion and purpose.”
