The news never sleeps, and journalists want a comfy space to do their critical work.
Digital news organization Semafor has inked a 12,000-square-foot lease at WB Property Group’s 495 Broadway just off Broome Street in SoHo, tenant broker Okada & Company confirmed to Commercial Observer. The lease was first reported by Traded.
The deal represents a relocation for Semafor, which will relocate about four blocks north from 394 Broadway.
“We are so thrilled to have represented Semafor in their office space expansion in SoHo,” Okada’s Christopher Okada, who represented Semafor alongside Ken Lerner, told CO. “It’s an incredible building with a wonderful landlord group that’s been in the area for many, many decades.”
The length of the deal was not disclosed. The asking rent was $100 per square foot for the SoHo office space.
JLL’s Dana Goldman and Brett Harvey represented the landlord in the deal. Spokespeople for Semafor and JLL did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Completed in 1893, 495 Broadway is an eight-story, Art Nouveau building with 12- to 15-foot vaulted ceilings, exposed brick, hardwood floors and outdoor space on the rooftop.
Other tenants at 495 Broadway include wellness retreat Lumora Spa, multi-label fashion showroom and wholesaler The News, and apparel retailer Proenza Schouler.
