A Japanese camera manufacturer is setting up shop in Manhattan’s photogenic SoHo neighborhood.
Fujifilm signed a lease for 12,700 square feet at Comjem Associates’ 210 Lafayette Street for what could be a brick-and-mortar retail location similar to stores operated by B&H or Adorama.
Not much else is known about the deal, but Fujifilm’s new space between Kenmare and Spring streets will span three levels, the New York Post reported. The space has been largely vacant in recent years, despite popular retail neighbors such as Eataly SoHo.
Cushman & Wakefield’s Andrew Kahn and Matt Weinreb represented both sides of the deal. C&W, however, declined to comment.
Fujifilm and Comjem Associates did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The transaction closed as SoHo retail leasing continued its upward trajectory with average asking rents in the submarket ranging between $896 and $1,409 per square foot, depending on the specific corridor, according to a third-quarter retail report from CBRE.
SoHo, one of the hottest retail markets in North America, has asking rents well above the Manhattan average of $707 per square foot, which grew 5 percent on a year-over-year basis in the third quarter, the CBRE report said.
