Get to Know the Broker: Ian Slater of Compass’ Trove Partners

reprints

Founded in 2024 by real estate advisers Michael Koeneke and Ian Slater, Trove Partners is all about helping clients make a home in some of the most beautiful properties in New York City and the Hamptons in Long Island.

Slater has spent 10 years in residential real estate advisory, becoming a top broker at Compass before teaming up with Koeneke to found Trove, a real estate team affiliated with the Compass brand. Now, Slater advises high-net-worth clients for that team and adds to his streak of selling more than $1 billion in the state.

Commercial Observer caught up with Slater in September for a series called “Get to Know the Broker,” where we connect with residential brokers to learn more about what makes them tick.

This conversation has been edited for length and clarity.

Commercial Observer: What has been the biggest deal of your career so far?

Ian Slater: It’s a tie! There is a $29 million sale for a Greenwich Village townhouse, and the $29 million sale of an Uptown double-wide house. But, my team also sold a $112.5 million house in Southampton.

What is your career Everest?

It has been building Trove Partners from the ground up. We started with two people, and grew to the No. 1 team for our size (13) in New York state.

Who has been your biggest influence?

My husband, who I call my chief operating officer. He has encouraged me multiple times to take bigger risks than I thought I could.

What’s your go-to Grubhub order?

A Westville salad. Boring.

What TV show are you currently binging?

“The Beast in Me” and “The Pitt.” I tend to be years behind in television and movies.

What is on your playlist?

Podcasts on podcasts: “Pivot,” “The Daily,” “How I Built This,” “Hard Fork.”
