Now, there’s one more reason to love Taco Tuesday: Restaurateur Mike Cordero is opening a new Taco Rock location in Northern Virginia.

Restaurant group Team Cordero has signed a 2,815-square-foot lease at landlord Federal Realty Investment Trust‘s 1116 West Broad Street in Falls Church, Va., where it will operate the taqueria and tequila bar, Commercial Observer has learned.

The property, located in the Birch & Broad shopping center, is currently being transformed from a retail space, with Carlos Construction handling the buildout for the restaurant.

The new, Northern Virginia location will be Cordero’s third and largest, fast-casual Taco Rock restaurant concept, joining Taco Rock-Alexandria, which opened at 6548 Little River Turnpike in the Pinecrest Plaza shopping center in January, and Taco Rock-Rosslyn, which opened at 1501 Wilson Boulevard in Downtown Arlington in November 2019.

Taco Rock-Falls Church will seat 85 guests indoors, centered around a 25-foot tequila bar. It can seat an additional 100 guests in an outdoor patio designed to accommodate alfresco dining.

“Adding best-in-class and distinguished operators, such as Taco Rock, where providing an authentic experience pairs with delicious cuisine, is in line with the transformation currently underway through the renovation, re-merchandising and repositioning of Falls Plaza to Birch & Broad,” Deirdre Johnson, Federal Realty’s vice president of asset management, said in a prepared statement.

Taco Rock is Cordero’s first fast-casual concept and first venture with family business Team Cordero, which also includes his sons, Nick and Anthony Cordero, as well as Chef Stefano Marzano of MightyMeals.

“Team Cordero is excited to expand Taco Rock’s footprint in Northern Virginia with the opening of our largest and third location,” Cordero said in a prepared statement. “The newly renovated Birch & Broad shopping plaza makes a perfect fit for our establishment and we anticipate the Falls Church community will welcome our concept.”

Notable D.C.- and New York-area designer Yvette Irene will develop the interior décor that mirrors the Rosslyn and Alexandria locations with several new design pops.

Taco Rock-Falls Church is slated to open in October.

Chris Saa from Divaris Real Estate represented Team Cordero in the lease.
