Popular Williamsburg-based coffee roaster Devoción is opening a shop in Dumbo, Brooklyn, Commercial Observer has learned.
The third-wave coffee seller has inked a 10-year lease for 1,400 square feet of ground-floor retail at Front & York, the 1.1 million-square-foot residential project at 85 Jay Street that occupies an entire block in Dumbo. The café is expected to open in the spring of 2022. Asking rent in the transaction wasn’t disclosed.
Devoción hopes to fill the void left by Brooklyn Roasting Company, which shuttered its nearby flagship location at 45 Washington Street last year after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This will be the fourth location for Devoción, which has outposts in Flatiron, Downtown Brooklyn and Williamsburg.
“We are very excited to open in Dumbo,” Steven Sutton, CEO and founder of Devoción, said in a statement. “We have always loved the neighborhood and wanted to be a part of the community for a long time.”
Developed by CIM Group and LIVWRK, Front & York consists of two 21-story towers with 408 condominiums and 321 rental units. The developers recently put the rental portion of the Morris Adjmi-designed project on the market for $235 million, according to The Real Deal.
The development — which occupies an entire block between Front, York, Bridge and Jay streets — is expected to be complete next year. It will feature a slew of amenities, including a private park, a roof deck with a swimming pool, a private screening room, a children’s playroom and a Life Time gym with a basketball court and full-service salon.
Daniyel Cohen, Steven Baker and Michael Shkreli of Winick Realty Group represented both sides in the transaction.
