The Financial District has gone through many changes and is unrecognizable from even five years ago, especially when it comes to retail.

“We were woefully under-retailed for a very long time,” said Jessica Lappin, the president of Alliance for Downtown New York. “By the end of next year, we’ll be able to say that in a five year period we have 75 percent more retail here, 1,200 shops and restaurants.”

With the Oculus and Brookfield Place for shopping and hot new restaurants like Manhatta and Don Wagyu with its $185 steak sandwich, Downtown’s retail is looking up.
