Sources say nordstrom is in talks to anchor a development project that Gary Barnett would build at 225 West 57th Street.
Rumors have swirled for months that Mr. Barnett, one of the city’s most prolific and successful builders of residential and commercial real estate, is trying to arrange a transaction with the department store, which has been cruising around Manhattan for a site for years.
There was buzz that Mr. Barnett had also brought Nordstrom to One57, the soaring residential tower he’s already in the process of building nearby, but he floors there are too small to accommodate the sprawling footprint of a department store sources say.
There are other development sites that Nordstrom could consider. Harry Macklowe and CIM are planning another massive residential tower nearby at the former site of the Drake Hotel and retail experts said Nordstrom has for years considered that project for a home.
The department store has opened its discount concept Nordstrom Rack in Manhattan but has yet to find a spot for a flagship.
The company has been tied to several buildings and potential deals in the past, including 3 Columbus Circle and the West Side rail yards.
