News America Inc., a marketing division of News Corp., has signed a 26,792-square-foot lease in the building between 46th and 47th streets. This marks the company’s third expansion in as many years, bringing its presence in the building to 165,000 square feet.

Since Rupert Murdoch’s 2007 purchase of Dow Jones and its prized subsidiary, The Wall Street Journal, the Australian mogul has moved many parts of that company once quartered in New Jersey to midtown. One of two headquarters for Dow Jones, the world’s third-largest media company, is located at dramatic 1211 Sixth Avenue.

Neighboring 1185 Sixth is no slouch, however. The SL Green building features some striking new exterior lighting and tenants like oil conglomerate Hess Corporation and the National Hockey League.

Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, but asking rents in the building are $60 to $65 a square foot.

Kenneth Rapp of CB Richard Ellis represented the tenant. Howard Tenenbaum and Gary Rosen represented the landlord in-house.

The New York Post first had news of the deal.
