Dr Smood, a cafe which specializes in 100 percent United States Department of Agriculture-certified organic food and beverages, is coming into Manhattan in a big way, Commercial Observer has learned.

The Denmark-based healthy eatery has signed five leases in Manhattan in the last six months, including at 470 Broome Street between Greene and Wooster Streets, which opens this week, Newmark Knight Frank’s Jason Pruger told CO at the International Council of Shopping Centers annual RECon event.

Dr Smood also signed leases at 485 Lexington Avenue between East 46h and East 47th Streets and 181 East Houston Street between Orchard and Allen Streets. Those will open in June and July, respectively, Pruger said.

Pruger, who represented Dr Smood in all of the 10-year, 1,500- to 2,000-square-foot Manhattan deals, described the eateries as “very upscale” with a “trendy buildout.”

Danish business developer René Sindlev, a co-founder of jewelry company Pandora, founded Dr Smood with his wife, Patrizia Manici Sindlev, an Italian architect, model and actress. The concept launched in 2014, starting in South Florida. There are four Dr Smoods in Miami with a fifth coming soon, according to the company website.
