WiredNYC, the New York City-based organization that focuses on helping buildings improve infrastructure across the city, issued its coveted Wired Certification to 7 Bryant Park. The 470,000 square-foot building owned by Hines earned a platinum certification from the group, the highest certification a property can receive.

The purpose of the program, developed by the New York City Economic Development Corporation, is to provide information about technology in commercial buildings across the city while helping property owners upgrade wiring and infrastructure for technology that caters to today’s tenants.

“This pre-certified platinum rating from WiredNYC is a result of our commitment to making 7 Bryant Park a model for what ‘connected’ can mean for New York City buildings,” Tommy Craig, the senior managing director of Hines’ tristate operations said in a statement. “Reliable, fast Internet is crucial for all 21st century tenants, not just financial and tech tenants. We’re excited to bring this cutting edge connectivity to the market in a building that is already, itself, LEED Gold pre-certified.”

WiredNYC, often described as LEED for broadband, establishes a Wired Certification rating system for New York City’s commercial real estate. Leadership from the group meet with commercial real estate owners and brokers to educate them on what it takes to update infrastructure and properly wire a building for today’s tenants.
