WB Mason, the Massachusetts-based office supply company, is opening its first distribution center in New York at a Bronx warehouse, The Real Deal reported.

According to TRD, the company signed a 10-year lease for 173,00 square feet at 1150-1170 Commerce Avenue in the Castle Hill area of the borough. The lease also includes 66,000 square feet of off-street parking and a loading zone area. The property was built in 1958 and is part of the Zerega Industrial Park.

Pinnacle Realty’s James Tack and Fred Stein represented both the tenant and the landlord, BNS Real Estate, in negotiations. Neither Mr. Tack nor Mr. Stein were immediately available for comment.

D.S. Waters, a bottled water supplier, also has space at the site.

According to its website, WB Mason has over 30 locations in seven states. It is the largest, privately owned office products dealer in the country.

The Castle Hill section of the Bronx, once an area riddled with crime (The New York Times reported that there were 50 murders and roughly 2,000 burglaries in 1990), has become safer for residents. The neighborhood also enjoys accessibility to Bruckner Boulevard, the Cross Bronx Expressway and the Hutchinson River Parkway.
