WX New York Women Executives in Real Estate named its former president, Susan Swanezy of Hodes Weill & Associates, the 2014 “woman of the year,” the invitation-only professional organization announced.

The group of 180 female senior executives in the city’s commercial real estate sector will celebrate the award for service to the organization at its annual gala on November 18 to benefit the organization’s scholarship fund for aspiring women real estate pros.

“I am honored, I have such a high regard this organization,” Ms. Swanezy said. “I’ll do my best to carry the torch.”

Ms. Swanezy also previously co-chaired the scholarship committee that’s administered 175 grants and scholarships to area real estate undergraduate and graduate students over the past ten years. In addition to the scholarships, the organization of developers, architects, lawyers, lenders and city officials promotes mentoring and hosts discussion panels and events.

“The idea is to support the advancement of women in real estate,” said Ms. Swanezy. “We’re really trying to help women in all aspects of their career.”
