Fastbreak Sports opened a new high-tech gym on the Upper East Side.

The gym allows the organization to expand its programs for young athletes seeking training, development and a place to practice after school. The 10,000-square-foot gym is a renovated space that once served the neighborhood at 85th Street on First Avenue as a movie theater.

Fastbreak-32The multistory gym is equipped with Wi-Fi, televisions, cameras and equipment to film students during practice and training, so the footage can be watched with coaches and parents later. Renovations cost for the project is an estimated $5 million. Tri-Star Construction was instrumental in transforming the space from a movie theater to the gym.

The training equipment at the basketball-focused sports facility has high-level technology that professional league players use. Among equipment used is a Bluetooth-sensor-enabled basketball that allows immediate feedback to the player and a Noah Basketball Shooting Aid to help players improve shot quality and form.

Parents and supporters of the program privately funded the new facility for Fastbreak Sports. The founder of Fastbreak Sports, Lonny Levin, an Upper East Side native, chose the location, saying he wanted to give back to the neighborhood that he loved since his youth.
