AT&T Boosts Jobs to Support Booming Southern Expansion

AT&T will hire more than 100 workers to help boost its expansion efforts in North Carolina, the company announced last week.

Among the jobs, 30 new positions will be added as a part of the company’s wireless and wired products and services. The jobs are a part of a $250 million investment by the company earlier in 2013.

ATT-sfSpanThe jobs will support technical network and retail operations. The North Carolina expansion is a part of AT&T’s Project VIP. The initiative was created by the company to expand broadband and wireless networks over a three-year period. In 2013, AT&T installed fiber in 93 multitenant buildings. The service is now available to more than 2,500 businesses in North Carolina. The company also doubled the Internet speeds for residential and business customers in the state. As AT&T continues to expanding North Carolina, the company boosted Internet speeds for its U-Verse customers across the country. Internet speeds in select markets around the country can now reach 45 Mbps downstream and 6 Mbps upstream.

The company launched its 4G LTE network in 14 markets across North Carolina including Charlotte-Gastonia, Raleigh-Durham, Greensboro-Winston Salem, Fayetteville, Wilmington and New Bern.

AT&T provides benefits to 1.1 million employees, retirees and dependents. The company invested $280 million in employee training and 26.6 million in tuition reimbursements in 2012.
