The times continue to change on the once-scruffy Lower East Side.

Last month, the Leather Gallery of New York, a vestige of Orchard Street’s historic discount shopping district, moved down the block from 194 Orchard Street. Now, filings with the Department of Buildings indicate that a new 9,225-square-foot, six-story mixed-use building might rise in its place, Bowery Boogie reported.

As of yesterday, the project’s status was “disapproved.” But another work approval application was entered today. The property would include 2,288 square feet of commercial space and 6,937 square feet of residential. The owner is listed as Hesky Haim of Sky High Group. The applicant is Israel Peles of Israel Peles Architects PC.

The future of popular retailer Intermix is less murky. Bowery Boogie reports that the store will open a 4,300-square-foot branch–the New York-based company’s seventh in the city–at 332 Bowery late next month.
