Revolve Fitness has opened its first New York City fitness facility at 52 East 13th Street in Union Square after inking a 10-year lease for the 2,500-square-foot space earlier this year.

The fitness concept, which “revolves” around classes that last up to one hour and geared towards both the beginner and cycling enthusiast, has one other location in Washington D.C., and the second location marks its first foray into New York City.

“We wanted to pick a location for our first New York City entry that we felt was head and shoulders above anywhere else – and this space, just a block from Union Square and so close to the Village was just an amazing opportunity,” said Sylvan Garfunkel, president of Revolve Fitness. “It’s a central location, with so many people around, so it really just seemed like a no-brainier.”

Finding a space that works is often a challenge for gyms, requiring mostly open space devoid of columns and basement space for locker rooms and electrical equipment, Mr. Garfunkel said.

“There’s a lot of available space in the city, but the hardest part was finding the right space that works,” he said. “We looked all over, as low as the Financial District and as high as the Upper East and Westside… This space lays out really nice, with lots of open space and high ceilings.”

Lee Block of Winick Realty represented the tenant on the lease, and Rudy Demasi of Safeguard Realty Management, Inc. represented the landlord. The brokers did not return calls or emails seeking comment in time for publication.

The cycling gym, similar in scope to popular concepts SoulCycle and FlyWheel, offers three different types of classes – Real Ride, Rip Ride, and Body Ride – geared towards different experience levels and hitting different body parts, with membership options ranging from single session to yearly payment plans.

“We’re thrilled to be here and to be in this specific space and all the excitement and attention we’ve been getting is amazing – it just seems like the buzz keeps going,” Mr. Garfunkel said.
