The List of CRE Companies Donating Office Space Through City Program Continues to Grow

The list of real estate companies teaming up with the New York City Economic Development Corporation to donate free, temporary office space in the wake of Hurricane Sandy continues to grow.

The latest, The Lightstone Group, announced Friday that it will make 11,000 square feet of space available at 1407 Broadway through a city program for a period up to six months.

Other real estate companies and developers to join the program include Muss Development, which is offering more than 45,000 square feet of office space in Staten Island and Queens for up to six months; Forest City Ratner, offering 35,000 square feet at One Metrotech in Brooklyn for up to six months; Related Management, offering 2,000 square feet at 654 Exterior Street in the Bronx for up to three months; and Brookfield (BN) Properties, offering an unspecified amount of space at Four World Financial Center in Manhattan for up to six months.

The property at 1407 Broadway is a 42-story, 1.1 million-square-foot building designed by architect Ely Jacques Kahn is located just south of Times Square and close to Herald Square, Grand Central Terminal, Penn Station and The Port Authority.

“We have seen so much devastation throughout New York City since Hurricane Sandy hit,” said David Lichtenstein, Chairman and CEO of Lightstone, in a prepared statement.  “We wanted to do something meaningful, and felt it was important to donate office space to help businesses get back online.”

“We thank The Lightstone Group for their generous donation of much-needed office space,” added NYCEDC President Seth W. Pinsky, in the statement. “This contribution will help impacted New York City businesses get back on their feet and contribute to our City’s economic recovery and future growth.”
