<p>The proposed <strong>55,000-square-foot </strong>development at <strong>837 Washington Street </strong>will create <strong>28,000 square feet</strong> of retail space and <strong>27,000 square feet</strong> of office space at the former site of a 1930s factory building.<!--more--></p>
<p>The new building, to be designed by <strong>Morris Adjmi Architects</strong>, received approval from the <strong>city Landmarks Preservation Commission </strong>earlier this summer.</p>
<p>The design of the 6-story steel and glass building will be "engineered to achieve LEED Gold certification" and will feature retail space in "one of the neighborhood's most highly trafficked corners," according to the building's website.</p>
<p>Joseph Sitt's Thor Equities paid $55 million for a 75 percent stake in the Meatpacking District project last December.</p>
